Welcome to the Waterford Quilters Guild!

Who are we?

The Waterford Quilters Guild was founded in the mid-1970’s by Anna Holland, a quilt teacher living in Waterford.  Under the auspices of the Waterford Foundation, she had begun teaching small groups of women in the art of quilting.  They met in the Second Street School, a school for African-Americans in the late 1800’s.  Since the school had no heat other than a small wood stove, they met at each other’s homes during the winter months.  When the School turned into a field trip re-enactment location, the Guild met in several Waterford locations and now meets in St. Francis de Sales Parish Hall in Purcellville.

Each year the Guild members create a raffle quilt with the primary proceeds going to the Waterford’s Second Street School.

The 2008 raffle quilt is well underway and raffle tickets will be offered at the annual Waterford and other local fairs later this summer and fall.

A Letter from our President!

We look forward to getting to know you in the coming months. This website contains information about the Guild, programs and regular activities, upcoming quilt shows, and a list of local quilt shops, longarm quilters, and weblinks to quilt-related sites.

Dues are collected in January. At this meeting, members sign up to work on committees, host bees and volunteer for activities. These committees are listed in your welcome notebook. If you would like to participate in any committee, talk to the coordinator of that committee to find out how you can become involved. Telephone numbers and e-mail addresses are in the membership directory(available to members only).

You will receive a monthly newsletter that provides you with all the latest news and activities, preferably via email.

Our Guild Meeting is held every second Wednesday of the month at St. Francis de Sales Parish Center (37730 St. Francis Court, Purcellville, VA 20132). The business meeting begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by show and tell, refreshments, and a program. There is time to socialize from 9:30 to 10:00 and after the meeting until 2:00 o’clock. A Guild Bee on the fourth Wednesday of the month is held in member’s homes. Some of the members also enjoy a Bee at the Purcellville Train Station on the first Wednesday of the month from 10:00 until 2:00 or a Guild Night Bee on the third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 9:00 at the Purcellville Library. All the Bees are social get-togethers where members work on their own projects.

Please contact me or another member if you have any questions. We offer a mentoring program and, if you like, we will put you in touch with one of our members who have volunteered to be a mentor.

Sincerely,

Beth Lucas
President
