PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Friends,
I hope you are all enjoying the summer and especially Fourth of July.
I will not be at the July or August meetings, having responsibilities for summer camps. Sheila will do a great job as chair. The Quaker Connection programming should be awesome, having its local ties.
We have recently run into a problem that existed a year ago when I took the president’s position and which seemed at that time to get better participation. Very few signed up for the Berryville show that never happened for us. When we sent around the Lucketts Fair booth sign-up, we had three or four signed up for at least 12 slots. We cannot attend this festival without a full sign-up list and your four-member board cannot be expected to fill in whenever 60 members cannot.
There has been some discussion about expanding the retreat to three days and Barbara Dove will speak about it at the July meeting. It would be a good opportunity for those of us with big projects to actually complete them at the retreat.
Girls, the good thing about helping at these fairs is that you get in free and are able to enjoy the sights and sounds. The music is always glorious and the food superb.
Our charity quilt committee, due to unforeseen circumstances, is in limbo at the moment. If you would like to join the committee and suggest a charity project, please let any board member know. Thanks to Stevii for mailing off the Quilts of Valor to the military hospital for distribution to wounded soldiers.
I have asked Sally Howland and Sally Keefer to serve on the executive board 2009 nominating committee and they have graciously accepted. One more person was out of town and should get back to me shortly. Sheila will step up as president and Barbara R. wants to continue as treasurer, having just gotten her feet wet this year. We have the vice president and secretary positions open. I know one of you has offered to take secretarial duties, so please call either Sally and speak to her. The vice president’s main job is programming and she/he will ascend to president the following year. Please call if you are interested.
This is your guild and the decisions about what we do are determined by the membership with advice from the executive board. We always appreciate people who bring us fresh and fun activities and suggestions. If there is something you would like to do this year or next, please speak up.
Some participants seem to be forgetting to bring their Secret Pal presents to the meetings. To encourage your participation, the board decided to add to viewing of Secret Pal presents to show and tell time. This might start the guessing about who goes with whom! Gifts are limited to $5.00, but some of you choose to give fewer gifts with more value, which is great.
Please have a great two months. I will see you at the evening bees and may drop by smelling like fishing camp at the house bees.
Keep those fingers nimble! Beth
MINUTES FROM JUNE MEETING
The Waterford Quilters’ Guild June 11th meeting was called to order by President Beth.
Sheila reminded the membership about upcoming programs. Pat Speth will do Nickle Square (5” square) workshop for us in September. Members need to sign up now with Sheila before the class is opened to non-members
Stevii reminded everyone to be working on their UFO Challenge Projects. UFOs are UnFinished Objects in your sewing room, closets, under the bed or where ever those projects are hiding. The Challenge meeting will be in November.
Barbara R. presented the Treasurers Report.
Under New Business, the sign up sheet for the Lucketts Fair, August 23-24 was circulated. This is an opportunity to sell raffle quilt tickets. Sally Keefer has developed a wonderful demo to show children how geometric shapes in quilts fit together.
When the call for more refreshments for the July meeting was announced, Gale and Barbara Edwards responded. Thank you!
When the call for more quilters for the 2008 raffle quilt was announced, Wendy responded and agreed to take the quilt for another week (note from 6/24: Wendy finished quilting the center of the quilt. Beth has quilted the inner border and started one of the
outer borders. Great progress!!
After the business meeting, a program was presented by Cyndi Souder. Show and Tell was presented after the program.

GUILD MEETING FOR – July 9th
This is the much anticipated presentation by Mary Robare speaking on The Quaker
Quilt Connection. She connects the Quaker quilting and way of life throughout the
region and it is particularly fascinating because there is a direct link to the Waterford
area. I heard Mary give this program to the Berryville group and I assure you that you
will be fascinated. So let’s have a large turn out for Mary.

NOTE TO MEMBERS – LOCATION OF ITEMS
Sally Keefer has requested that the following items be located and made available for the Lucketts Fair. If you have the
following items or know where they are, please contact her.
two quilt hangers, WQG banner, demonstrator quilt and frame (how much is left to quilt?), tickets/change box.
We used to have samples of piecing, quilting, appliqué that we used as a demonstration at the Waterford Fair. Does anyone
recall seeing them? Also, we used to have bookmarks and a tri-fold describing the guild. Does anyone have them as part of
your files? It would be wonderful to be able to revise them and pass it out at the fair.
